After more than 10 years serving as Berkeley Lab’s Deputy Director for Research and Chief Research Officer, Horst Simon has decided to step down from his position later this year. As part of reducing his commitments, he will also step down as an Executive Sponsor of the Women Scientists and Engineers Council (WSEC) on March 30.
Horst has long been a champion of greater diversity and inclusion and a strong supporter of WSEC’s effort to build a culture of welcoming and visibility for women at the Lab, from the early days of WSEC more than 10 years ago, and more recently as an executive sponsor since 2017.
Henrik von der Lippe, Engineering Division Director and the Lab’s Chief Engineering Officer, will become a new WSEC Co-executive Sponsor with Susan Hubbard, ALD of the Earth & Environmental Sciences Area, starting in April.
