In partnership with the Diversity and Inclusion Office, the Lab Directorate hosted LBNL’s annual appreciation luncheon for veterans on Tuesday, November 1, 2016. All Lab employees from various branches of the U.S. military were invited to attend. Lab Director Mike Witherell welcomed our veteran employees and thanked them for their service. UC Berkeley’s Air Force Color Guard presented the colors to over 40 veterans at the Lab. Phil Weiss, Co-Chair of the Veteran Employee Resource Group (VERG), invited fellow servicemen and women to join VERG. To view additional photos from the event, click here.
The charter of the VERG is to enhance the work environment at Berkeley Lab for veteran employees and job seekers. Its goals are to promote an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere, identify and address emerging issues or challenges such as veteran recruitment and retention, increase the visibility and value of veterans’ skills in the workplace among management and staff, provide guidance for institutional processes and programs, enhance policies of non-discrimination, and recognize achievements impacting their community.
