Developing Your Pitch
In June, the WSEC started a three-part workshop: Developing Your Pitch. The third workshop in the series will take place on August 20, 12 – 1 pm in Building 54, Room -130B – Pers Hall addition.
This series is highly recommended for all LBNL researchers – including 2019 Research SLAM participants!
Though not easy, you know that communicating your research in cogent, concise ways is critical for your comfort, confidence, and success at all stages of your career. A strong pitch is needed when you apply for fellowships and training programs, new positions or promotions, for funding, for grants, for awards.
Irene Kuhn, Ph.D., Research Scientist in Berkeley Lab’s Biological Systems and Engineering Division, will lead the series. Irene began her career at UCSF, then worked in private sector BioTech pharmaceutical concept level cancer research for 23 years before joining Berkeley Lab 11 years ago. Lauren Lui, Ph.D., Berkeley Lab Postdoctoral Fellow, will also be on hand to share her experience as a SLAM finalist last year.
For the June 10 session, come with a draft pitch if you have one (you must attend in person to work on your pitch). You’ll receive feedback that will help you revise your pitch for the second session – and for the Research SLAM. You can also come to listen if you want to learn about developing your own pitch for the July pitch session. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to develop pitching skills that are critical for your career!
