Berkeley Lab’s Veteran Employee Resource Group (VERG) recently hosted a visit for students representing “VETS @ SFSU”. “VETS” stands for Veterans’ Education, Transition, & Support, the student organization for veterans and their families and friends at San Francisco State University. Their visit on November 16th included a tour of the Advanced Light Source; a talk from the Joint Genome Institute’s Erika Lindquist on transitioning from the military to science; a presentation from Recruitment Manager Rachel Carl on hiring and internship opportunities; and a networking session with VERG and other managers to share their perspectives and discuss potential opportunities for future employees or interns at the Lab.
This initiative is a part of VERG’s commitment to reach out to the veteran community, and ensuring a veteran-friendly work environment for employees and prospective applicants. VERG is open to all employees at the Lab, and its Executive Sponsor is Facilities Division Director Reva Nickelson.
