2018 Women @ the Lab Speaker Series – October 8, 2019

WSEC is excited to launch a new speaker series featuring 2018 Women @ The Lab honorees, on Tuesday, October 8, 12:30-1:30pm  in Perseverance Hall (54-130) and via Zoom. (https://lbnl.zoom.us/j/320388525)  Learn about the fantastic science being done by the women scientists at LBNL.

Our first featured speaker is one of our own WSEC members: Qing Ji, Ph.D., staff scientist and Deputy Program Head of Fusion and Ion Beam Technology in Accelerator Technology and Applied Physics Division. Qing will give an informal talk and Q&A about her work and career path here at Berkeley Lab.

Qing has been widely recognized internationally for her contributions to the development of advanced accelerators, ion sources, and ion source applications in accelerator front ends, neutron generators, and semiconductor manufacturing. She holds seven U.S. patents and received an R&D 100 Award in 2012. She was the principal investigator of an LDRD project for the development of a compact laser-driven ion beam accelerator at LBNL. Her work on a microelectro-mechanical systems-based compact ion accelerator as part of another project, which received highly competitive ARPA-E support, was featured on the cover page of Review of Scientific Instruments in June 2017.

Qing will talk about her research in layperson’s language. Please come to the WSEC brown bag to learn what has been going on in this area of research at LBNL, and also hear about how Qing has navigated her career in LBNL facing funding uncertainties over the years.
