Black History Month 2020 – a note from Michael Brandt, Deputy Director of Operations

Dear Colleagues,

As the Deputy Director for Operations and the Executive Sponsor of the Lab’s African American Employee Resource Group (AAERG), I’m pleased to acknowledge Black History Month throughout the month of February.

The mission of the AAERG is to advance a diverse and inclusive work environment focusing on African American current and future employees.  Working through a network of dedicated professionals, the AAERG undertakes internal and external activities to attract, retain, empower and inspire African American employees to achieve their fullest potential across the spectrum of employment opportunities at Berkeley Lab including scientists, engineers, technologists, and operations staff.

For other ways to learn about and honor Black History Month outside of the Lab, here are Ways to Celebrate Black History Month, and here is a video that presents the origins of Black History Month.

This month is an opportunity to consciously reflect on and celebrate African American contributions and achievements.  I encourage the Lab Community to join me in taking part in the Black History Month activities organized by the African American Employee Resource Group (AAERG).
