Berkeley Lab

Lab Staff Invited To Join “gLoBaL” Employee Resource Group

In an effort to support the inclusion of international employees in the workplace, Berkeley Lab’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Office will be launching a new Employee Resource Group called “gLoBaL” ERG (the word “global” with “LBL” in it). The group is open to any employee (from anywhere, including the United States) who wishes to join.

The purpose of gLoBaL is to provide support and a sense of community for Lab employees who have moved to the United States from another country via:

• Developing a community of international employees to support each other;
• Raising awareness of the challenges international employees face when moving from their home country to the United States;
• Celebrating the diverse cultures and unique gifts that international employees bring to the Lab;
• Creating opportunities for domestic employees to support their international colleagues.

This ERG will also partner with Human Resources on outreach (at least three opportunities per year), awareness, and/or process improvement efforts, and collaborate on possible learning and development opportunities.

Implemented as a best practice in both public and private sectors, ERGs are associations of employees who are organized around a diversity dimension, and developed to further the organization’s business goals. They promote opportunities for professional growth and development, provide an opportunity for networking, and support the Lab’s values for community and collaboration. ERGs allow employees of all levels to participate in the Lab’s strategic DEI initiatives, and work towards fully integrating DEI into our day-to-day business practices.

If you are interested in joining gLoBaL, please complete the form here by Friday Feb. 16th. We will schedule a kick-off meeting to launch the ERG (meeting date and time TBD). For any questions, please email the DEI Office at dei@lbl.gov.
