Seeking Volunteers for Summer Engineering Program for Local High School Students

Discover Engineering Summer Residential Camp is seeking volunteers!

Program Goal: To create a seamless transition for students from high school Engineering Pathways to post-secondary education aligned with high-wage, high-demand, high-skill careers in the East Bay Region. To increase persistence to completion of Project Lead the Way (PLTW) and MESA Program (Math Engineering Science Achievement) students from high school to post-secondary certificate, two- and four-year STEM degree programs.

Summer Engineering Residency—During high school summer vacation, a one-week engineering-related summer residency for PLTW/MESA high school students and teachers (up to 65 students and 15 teachers) is held at CSU-EB Hayward Hills Campus. High school teachers (as camp chaperones) and their students stay on-campus in dorms and experience college life. They are immersed in a 5-day rigorous engineering hands-on experience which blends lecture, laboratories and industry field visits and career panels. Students/teachers arrive on campus the Sunday before the camp to acclimate to dorm living. CCEP is responsible for working with PLTW teachers and CSU-EB Engineering faculty to design, plan and implement the day-camp portion of the residency. CSU-EB and PLTW teachers design, plan and implement the evening portion of the residency with support from CCEP.
