Berkeley Lab’s Veteran Employee Resource Group (VERG) and the Diversity and Inclusion Office recently hosted a “Veterans’ Day on the Job” event for participants in the NPower program. NPower is a national program, with a Bay Area chapter serving veterans who are eager to transfer their military experience and develop new skills toward a career in technology. The free Technology Service Corps program offers the following curriculum: CompTIA A+ Certification, Active Directory, ITIL, and ServiceNow.
Their visit on May 20, 2016 included a tour of the supercomputers in Wang Hall; a “veteran’s perspective” talk by Steve Nobles in the IT Division; a professional development workshop facilitated by Sr. Recruiter Jeff Todd; and a networking session with VERG members to share perspectives and discuss potential opportunities for future employees at the Lab. Laleh Coté and Tokiwa Smith from Workforce Development & Education (WD&E) also shared information about internship opportunities. Click here to view photos.
This initiative is a part of VERG’s commitment to reach out to the veteran community, and ensure a veteran-friendly work environment for employees and prospective applicants. VERG is open to all employees at the Lab, with Facilities Division Director Reva Nickelson serving as the Executive Sponsor.
