The STEM Future is Female – SXSW EDU Virtual Session – May 19, 2020

If the SXSW EDU conference in Austin, Texas, in early March had not been cancelled due to COVID-19 public health concerns, the U.S. Department of Energy, NASA, and the U.S. State Department would have been joining forces in an expo booth and a panel. But we didn’t want the change of plans to keep us from our conversation.

Date: Tuesday, May 19th

Time: 11:00 am PT

Better diversity = better outcomes, better economics, better morale, and a better environment.

We’ll unpack what the Energy Department and State Department are doing to engage girls in STEM, and what’s actionable for in-school, after-school, and nontraditional learning partners to do today. We’ll discuss how NASA’s broad STEM outreach opportunities can be tailored to support girls in STEM to become the future women leading the way in STEM discoveries, policies, and careers.

Join our virtual SXSW EDU session to hear from Rita Baranwal, Assistant Secretary, Office of Nuclear Energy, U.S. Department of Energy; Lisa Guerra, Office of the Administrator, NASA and Sabrina Abu-Hamdeh, Office of Global Partnerships, U.S. Department of State, in a conversation moderated by Melinda Higgins, Nuclear Energy Tribal STEM Advisor, U.S. Department of Energy, and ask questions on Twitter using #STEMFutureIsFemale.
